Bad habit #3 – “I’ll do it later”

Most of us start the day with the best intentions of getting our to-do list completed for the day, but, we lack enough will-power, and what we have reduces as we work our way through the day. Therefore the best thing you can do to be more productive is to prioritise and get the most important tasks completed as early as possible. That way, later, when you slide back to that bad habit of putting stuff off, it’s the not-so-important items that you are failing on.

Failing to prioritise is one of the biggest productivity killers you can suffer from. BUT, prioritising itself is just not enough, its all very well if we prioritise and still not do it in a timely fashion.

There are countless pages on the internet about getting things done, about to-do lists, prioritisation, etc, and the solution is painfully simple:

  1. Collect or list what needs to be done
  2. Considering importance and priority place them in the order you will complete them
  3. Make appointments with those tasks – actually put them in your calendar as if they are appointments with people.
  4. And get it done – no excuses, no putting it off until later.
