The Institute of Grocery Distribution has declared that 42% of grocery shoppers in the UK would consider purchasing their groceries online. The number of people shopping for groceries online has increased to 26% this year from 22% in 2010. The Institute is predicting that the online grocery sector will be the fastest growing part of the UK grocery market over the next five years. They forecast that the value of the sector will double in value from £8.9 billion in April 2015 to £17.2 billion by April 2020. The Director of Retail Insight at the institute believes that online shopping is still on a rapid growth curve, as people are making the most of new devices, lower delivery charges and minimum spends, in addition to increased access to click-and-collect points.
